How to remove scale from titanium anode!

Update time  2025-09-19 Reading 238

Titanium anodes achieve efficient removal of scale through electrochemical reactions.

1、 Core mechanism of descaling

1. Cathodic softening

The high concentration of OH ⁻ is generated by electrolysis in the cathode region, and the local pH value rises to 10-12, which promotes the early precipitation of Ca ² ⁺ and Mg ² ⁺ into loose aragonite type calcium carbonate and reduces the adhesion strength.

A soft scale accumulation layer is formed on the surface of the cathode, which can be physically removed by regular scraping.

2. Anodic oxidation decomposition

The active substance destroys the lattice structure of scale and oxidizes organic sludge, causing the hard scale to loosen and peel off.

2、 Operation process and parameters

Pre treatment: When the water hardness is greater than 200mg/L, trace amounts of NaCl should be added to enhance conductivity and active chlorine generation;

Electrode configuration: titanium anode to stainless steel cathode area ratio of 1:2~1:3, electrode spacing of 10-20mm;

Working parameters: voltage 5-7V, current density 200-500A/m ², pH adaptation range 2-12;

Scale removal cycle: The cathode soft scale is removed every 3 days, and the anode passivation layer is acid washed and regenerated annually;

3、 Typical application scenarios

1. Industrial circulating water system

Central air conditioning cooling tower: Titanium anode mesh cage cathode adsorbs soft scale, saving 30% water and improving heat transfer efficiency.

Power plant condenser: simultaneous removal of CaCO3 scale and biofouling, extending equipment cleaning cycle to 1 year.

2. High salt wastewater treatment

In seawater desalination pretreatment, it can withstand 3000ppm chloride ion corrosion and has a lifespan six times that of graphite anodes.
